Justin, You are right about the cynical and disheartening trend of discontinuing the work of expensive older workers by corporations, and having them train younger college recruits. However, the big difference now is that, in addition to that kind of negative trend for workers within the USA, we are seeing entire shifts in where work will be done, and where the salaries of these new offshore workers will be spent. Not to mention the fact that well-trained and educated workers here will be scrambling to find work in other realms at a time and stage of life when security should be more accessible to them and their families, often after they have contributed 2 or 3 decades to the workforce and tax paying to their country and community.

If an increasing percentage of the educated US tax base disappears from the economy due to offshoring, who will be left to pay the bills for the most basic of domestic needs for the US-based workers? Who will be shopping at Home Depot or Wal-Mart? Never mind Bloomingdale's or the local grocery...? Who will be able to care for their elders, and who will be able to help with their children's bills and educations (towards what kinds of jobs?) by the year 2020?
